Summer 2018

September brings Labor Day and backyard BBQ’s with family and friends. We hope with it will be some relief from the unusually hot summer we have experienced here and around the country.  Even our puppy, Bandit, has been quick to finish his business outside in our back yard but loves the evening cool down (when we have them).

Don has done such an exceptional job babying our gardens this year. We are experiencing a great growing season, with the daily rain this summer. Our Jalapeño peppers are so big this year and HOT!  Our Ghost peppers are coming in daily very large and are a beautiful bright red!  Our Carolina Reapers are just starting to Red Up and they are also larger than we have grown before.

We made a Jalapeño Jam that is beautiful with green and red flecks of peppers.  It will be great on a block of cream cheese, spread on crackers!  Look for the recipe.

Our Meyers Lemons are starting to yellow up and our 3 year old tree has over 36 lemons.  We have Satsuma Mandarins that are starting to turn orange on both of our trees and we have dozens!  Our small one year old Ruby Red grapefruit had a tough time last winter and got a late start but it still has a couple of fruit on it, as well.

All in all, Don, Bandit and I look forward the the fall harvest over the next couple of months and to cooling down outside so Bandit can enjoy fetch outside and we can take long walks. I will be posting some fall recipes, so watch for them!
